Clicking on links does not work on Google Search results

    Question

  • I installed XP Service Pack 3 this morning.  The installation went well with no problems.

Later I needed to do a Google Search and that's when I noticed the problem.

I tried to click on the link for the search results and it did not work.

I had to right click and use the "Open in New Tab" or "Open in New Window".

    Can someone help?

    Thanks

  • Try this: open a Command Prompt window and type the command:

    regsvr32   urlmon.dll

and check that you get an affirmative response.  Then try again.

Believe it or not, I had this happen two years ago and even reloaded the OS, same thing.

It was my router. I replaced it and all worked fine. I found this after it still would not work, I connected directly to the DSL modem and viola...all worked well. Even a router hard reset with no config did the same thing.

Bingo. I registered just to let you know, this was the solution I needed. I've been having this problem for months and it was so freakin annoying. Thanks! No more opening in new tabs for me.
