  • Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum.

The issue may be related to corrupted application files. To troubleshoot this kind of issue, I would like to propose the following suggestions.

    1. Initialize Sticky Notes from its source folder. Generally, the default location is C:\Windows\System32\StikyNot.exe.

If you can open Sticky Notes from its source folder, the issue is due to corrupted shortcut icon. If it is the case, you need to delete sticky shortcut icon and create a new one from the source folder and pin it to the Start menu.

    Otherwise, please continue the step.

    2. Open a Command Prompt to run the following command to fix corrupted system files.

1)Click the Start button and type "Command Prompt" in the search box.

2)Right click Command Prompt to run as Administrator.

3)Type: sfc /scannow to scan the whole disk.

    3. Copy StikyNot.exe from another available Operating System to the current computer.

    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • I have exactly the same problem with OS version 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3 (Metadata corrupt + same error details) - both solutions did not succeed. I also get an error when I try to open the "Snipping Tool" ("Snipping does not function...")....

  • When I tried starting Sticky Notes it gave me the unspecified error message.
The Stikynot.exe was missing from system32 folder.
The sfc /scannow command did restore the Stikynot.exe application.
All [seems to] work at the moment.
    However, this is very troubling.
What is the reason behind this "corruption"?
    Any ideas?
