The Application Event Log occurred a PnPDriverInstallError message with EventID 1001 and Win32 error while installing to a VPN driver.

    Question

  • I received a PnPDriverInstallError message while installing device drivers for the juniper VPN client on Windows 7.
And the Juniper VPN Client also couldn't install with EventID 1001 and PnPDriverInstallError.
I could see 1042 network interfaces when I checked under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Is it set a bad example to install a vpn client program ?

Could you check about below log messages ? Please let me know some workaround to install a vpn client without PnPDriverInstallError.

  • Hi,

It seems the issue is related to dsNcAdpt.inf. It is a Juniper related driver. Please try the following workaround.

    1. From control panel, uninstall all Juniper products.
    2. From %systemroot%\system32\drivers, rename dsNcAdpt.sys to dsNcAdpt_old.sys
    3. Reboot and disable UAC temporarily to install the VPN client again.

If the issue persists, I suggest posting in Juniper support to get more insights.

  • Hi Niki,

    Thank you for you response.
Although I already checked a "dsNCAdpt.inf" file under drivers folder.
But the VPN installer couldn't create "dsNCAdpt.inf" with PnPDriverInstallError message.

Could you advise another action items about it ?
What's the meaning about below application log ?

  • Hi,

I could find a very similar case.
    * URL : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/5851dd5a-bf97-48df-a8a4-4edca88911c4

It's our log message. Could you provide some action items without upgrading to the latest driver version ?
Because I just done. But this issue occurred again on the windows 7 OS.
