Bitlocker...can't open drive!

    Question

  • Hello,I cannot open up my Bitlocker encrypted drive anymore. I know the password obviously, however it is now asking me for a recovery key.I made the mistake of not printing this key nor saving it to my computer...at least to my recolection. No matter what I do it doesn't ask me for the password.Ive tried system restore...no go.Im rrunning windows 7 64 bit ultimate.Ive read that I may have rendered my drive usless now...please tell me this isnt so!Maybe it detected a potential security threat and is now asking for a key and not password? I just need to know how to get it back asking for the password and NOT the key. Please any help would be muchly appreciated! If it stores the key automatically somewhere in windows 7...where can i find it?I also tried viewing the contents of the encryted drive using bitlocker to go reader on my wifes laptop running XP....however it is unable to read the drive as it is an ntfs drive and i understand bitlock to go reader will not read ntfs?

    Hi,

When did the issue occur? Did it occur after reinstalling the system or after installing certain hardware?

If you lose the recovery password, I'm afraid that the data on the drive is irretrievable and you have to reformat the hard drive. Hence, please try to find the recovery key back. If the Recovery Key is still on the machine, please type the key word "BitLocker Recovery Key" in Search box and search the file.

    Thanks,

    Novak
