Windows 7 -- unable to change advanced sharing settings

    Question

  • Hello:

In Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings, I need to turn off password protected sharing to be able to map to my NAS.

The problem is, when I save the change to "off", it automagically goes back to "on"

I've heard turning the firewall off before making this change can fix that problem -- it didn't work.

I've heard blanking out the guest password before making this change can fix the problem -- that solution didn't work either.

Has anyone ever successfully been able to change any of the advanced sharing settings and made the settings stick?  I'm using 64 bit, Enterprise version.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
