Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum and Windows 7 - Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error

    Question

  • Hi,

I recently purchased a new Medion Akoya P6624 and it came with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. I installed Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum (which has worked on my Desktop Vista) but when I attempt to run the program it comes up with an error message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library, Runtime Error!, Program: ...Files\Atari\Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum\RCT3plus.exe, abnormal program termination

After I click ok The loading cursor for the program (a turning CD) remains and will not go away untill the computer is restarted.

I have tried downloading Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) as was suggested elsewhere and have reinstalled several times, tried in combatibilty mode (Windows XP Service Pack 2 and 3) searched everywhere I can for a patch to fix the problem, but nothing seems to work? Please help!

Here is my computers system information:

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M
    Graphics memory: 1GB
    RAM:4GB
    Processor speed: 2.4GHz
    Processor type: Intel Core i3-370M
It also mentions that it has a second graphics card.

  • If anyone else reads this thread I'd like to provide the solution I discovered thanks to secuROM:

Your issue might be solved with an updated executable.

    Please perform these steps:
    1. Open the folder 'C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum\'
    2. Rename the 'rct3plus.exe' to 'rct3plus.exe.OLD' in the folder above
(Right-click on this executable and go down to 'rename')
    3. Download this zip-archive:
    http://download.securom.com/support/001483/rct3.zip
    4. Extract the new 'rct3plus.exe' from the downloaded zip-archive into the
    folder 'C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum\'
    5. Start the new 'rct3plus.exe'

This worked wonders for me so I hope it helps others too :)

  • This is for the disk-version. Do you have any advice for the same problem, but with the Steam-version?
