Upgrading Win XP to 8.1 using .iso file

    Question

  • I have downloaded the WIN 8.1 32bit .iso file, extracted, and burned the files to a DVD, but when I click 'setup.exe' I hit an error:

"The procedure entry point __CxxFrameHandler3 could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll"

I have gone through this process twice with the same result, where do I go from here? How do I fix this?  I'm trying to update Windows XP to Windows 8.1.

    Thanks.

  • I also hit this second error message:

The file 'autorun.dll' could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is [0x7F]

    Thanks.

  • You can't update from XP to 8.1. Use a clean install.

  • Hello,

You cannot upgrade from XP but you should be able to run setup.exe.

I would check msvcrt.dll to make sure it wasn't replaced by another application and if it was to put back the correct OS  version
