mdsched memory diagnostic

    Question

  • When I had 4 GB of RAM installed the 64 bit version of
Winows 7 took 12 minutes to complete the mdsched memory
diagnostic.  I recently upgraded to 8 GB, and the diagnostic
still takes 12 minutes.  I think that means it is only
    testing the first 4 GB.

It would be poor practice to only test half of the memory
that the system actually uses, to not state that only half
of it is being tested, and then give the system a clean bill
of health.  Is the diagnostic really ignoring half of the
    installed memory?

  • I would suggest you to use memtest86+ which is MUCH, MUCH better compared to this Windows tool:

  • I discovered memtest86 after I wrote this.  The default
configuration hung up on my 64 bit quad core AMD processor,
but the version 3.5 fall-back menu option did the job
    nicely.
