    Question

  • Hi,

I always could click on a new tab, and then the 10 most visited websites would pop up on the blank page.  Now all of a sudden, they are gone.  When I click to open a new tab, all i see is a blank white page.  The websites aren't there for me to choose from anymore.  Did i accidentally turn off a setting or something? Please help!!! Thank you!!!!

  • Well, I answered my own question out of frustration....

I texted a friend of mine who took ONE look at my picture and simply said "oh just go into Internet Options, click on "Tabs settings" and click on the box that says "when a new tab is opened display...."  and you have the choice of displaying a "blank page" or "the new tab page" which has your most viewed sites"

To the FIFTY people that viewed this post..... *sigh* I need a drink now... simply pathetic....

I swear I am never using these forums ever again -.-

  • 1. This usually will happen immediately after you Delete the history on the general settins sheet of Internet options.

    2. On the General sheet of Internet options there is Setting button and here you can set the number of last URL remembered by system (at least in my IE8 it is as I described)

    3. For IE problem the better place for questions in appropriate forum devoted to Internet Explorere. You may have aswer faster

  • sorry but I think you are thinking of something else..... I never even touch my browsing history...this has nothing to do with that.  I am not talking about recently viewed webpages that appear when you try to type in text... I am talking about how when you open a new tab and the 10 most visited sites (those 10 little colored boxes) appear for you to choose from.  Instead I get a white, blank page with NOTHING on it.  I hope this clarifies what i am asking for.... thanks

  • Do you have the option on the right side of the page to click on "Show sites"?

  •

THIS is what i am missing.  I see NONE of this. no cute little boxes that display my most viewed sites, no hide sites button, NOTHING.  It is very frustrating to me... becuase I do not know why I can't see this like I always had.  Instead I just see a blank white page. that's it.

  • You can try resetting IE9 to the default settings.  This is on the Advanced tab of Internet Options.

And people that post here and then make a statement as you have seem to think that everyone that reads a post here is supposed to have a crystal ball and know everything about your system.

As Voltaire stated over 200 years ago: "Common sense isn't so common anymore!"

  • No....it has nothing to do with having a crystal ball...its with being at least 0.01% tech savvy...which is why you post in places like THIS.... which makes me laugh that everyone views this post and scratches their head and my friend who IS tech savvy...answered it in 2 seconds and he doesn't even HAVE windows 7.... so no...this is not a "system" problem.... which only proves my point that even a forum for tech problems is still just a forum like any other. Sadly.  Needless to say even if my friend is on vacation...I will fly/drive/swim to wherever he is vs. using a forum again lol.... The answer was so simple...but I myself am not tech savvy and would not have known where to look.

  • And...dont' get me wrong...I do appreciate the answers that i did get....but.... everyone was thinking so far outside the box....like countries away.....that they failed to see the most simple answer.....and I honestly don't think anyone even knew what I was talking about to begin with.  Even with pictures... so that is only why it is so frustrating that a simple setting such as that...didn't even register in anyone's brain to fix.  Anyhoo....have a nice day ;)  Oh and good Voltaire quote...love that guy...

  • You need to keep in mind that most people posting here are not experts.  This is a peer-to-peer discussion exchange forum, so some problems have never been discussed before.

The default in IE9 is for "the new tab page."

You plainly stated it was working.  So, someone had to be messing around with the settings and turned it off.

Then you think everyone reading this thread is automatically supposed to know that someone using your computer turned the tab page off!

Voltaire was definitely correct because you apparently don't have any common sense!  Or, if you do, you have a problem using it!
