Windows 7 won't shutdown

    Question

  • When I click the shutdown icon in Win 7 RC the system will close out any running programs
then goes to the screen that says "System Shutting Down" with the circle "waiting" icon
then it just hangs up. I then need to hit the power button to shutdown. I've checked for the newest
Vid/sound/chipset drivers. I disabled legacy usb support. Turned off any power saving options in the software
and in the bios. I upgraded from Vista Home Ultimate with no prolems.
Core Duo E8400, 4 Gig Crucial Ram, X-Fi Fata1ty Ultimate Gamer, XFX 9800 GTX, 500 Gig WD SATA HD.
Nothing overclocked, Shutdown fine with Vista.

  • Possibly the Event Viewer will show something. Also, Control Panel/Action Center/Maintenance should have a report on problems with devices.

  • Thanks for the info.
I went to the action center and it did not show any problems.
I clicked on "check for solutions" and it came up with something regarding
my Soundblaster. It said self installation. I sent data to MS. This is a copy of the file

  • I have the same issue but I have no intention of doing a re-install. Once I turn the computer back on I get the screen that says "Windows did not shut down properly" and it gives options such as safe mode, normal, etc.

Could this be related to running my computer for extended periods of time? Any help is appreciated.

  • Same thing happens to me and I agree I have no intention of wiping my hard drive. I use my computer basic stuf (nothing fancy) and the software that I have loaded is pretty standard. Would like to know a solution to this. The computer with issues is a Lenovo Thinkpad and I am running a Dell Desktop with Windows 7 that does not have the same problem. Would appreciate any guidance.
