    what is the product key

It's the Key which allows you to activate whichever program it is you are talking about.  :)

If you want to know what key you are currently using, then use Belarc advisor (www.belarc.com )

If you want to know why your system is asking for one - what program are you using that's asking for it? If it's Word, Outlook, Excel or another Office Program, then you are currently using a Trial install of Office, and need to purchase the program to acquire a Key to continue to use it.

If you are having some problem activating your system - To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
     - IN YOUR OWN THREAD, please

  • I'm almost surprised your machine will run Windows 7 - the motherboard was manufactured in 2005, 4 years before Win7 was released.

It claims to be an OEM installation from Dell (according to the Product Key in use) - which is plainly impossible.

You need to either purchase a legal copy of Windows 7, or revert back to the original OS with which the machine presumably shipped - check your COA sticker to see what that was.
