  • Yes the general icons have not changed from Vista.  It is not known at this time if they will change them or not.  The problem with Animation is it will take up more resources.  Which is not what most people want.  They want less resources used.  So animation is most likely not to be added.

  • Which Windows 7 Icon?  The one for the Start Menu?  It is different than Vista.  In Vista it only highlighted the Icon.  In Windows 7 you will see it glow.  Colors come out of it.  Which is different than Vista but only slightly.

  • You also have to remember that the phones only run a limited set of applications at once.  So they can dedicate more resources to the animation and you not notice a lag.  While with Windows you can be running upwards of 50 or more processes at once along with several applications.  All of which eat up resources.

Add into that PC Manufacturer dont make all machines with 2GB of RAM or more and not everyone that will be running Windows 7 will have that many resources available they have to keep the OS down in it resouces use.

They want to be able to get Windows 7 on a EEEPC which doesnt have the best specs out there.  Having animation included can cause systems with not so great resouces to experience lag while trying to do other tasks.

This is something that most mobile companies dont have to worry about.  It isnt like people are trying to run a Word processor, music, browser, IM chat window and more on a mobile phone all at once.  This is something that microsoft has to take into consideration when building the OS.
