    Question

  • Hi. I'm running windows 7 fully updated on a Core2Duo 2.66 / 4gb RAM.
Recently my live messenger start giving me an error when i tried to connect. Then i uninstalled it.
Went to the Windows live download page and downloaded the installer.

Now the problem. as soon i open the installer, 2 or 4 seconds later on "Preparing the installer", a windows appears:
    " Couldn't install programs
Please try installing Windows live programs again.
    Error OnCatalogResult: 0x8007273d
Next steps: An unknown error occurred."

    An then it close.

I ran windows update then. Selected WINDOWS LIVE ESSENTIALS UPDATE
It happens the same thing. Download.. Windows live installation screen.. Preparing the installer.. ERROR..

It looks like some problem with my connection.. im running no firewall, no anti virus, and my IP is at the DMZ of the modem.
If someone knows the path for the installation log please reply.

Thanks and sorry about the English..

  • Hi,

    Thank you for posting.

If the issue didn’t occur previously, a quick solution is to restore the system back to the previous status when the issue didn’t occur with System Restore. (Note: Performing a system restore may cause the loss of the current system settings; therefore, before doing this, please make sure that the system restore point is not too old and set a restore point for the current status.)

Meanwhile, please also try the following:

    1. Check the Background Intelligent Transfer Service:

    1)    Click Start, type services.msc in the Search Bar and press ENTER.

    2)    Navigate to Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

    3)    If it is stopped, please start it; if it is started, please stop and restart it. Then, check if it works.

    2. Reset Winsock

    1)    Run “netsh winsock reset” (without quotations) in an elevated Command Prompt, and press Enter.

    2)    Restart the computer.

After the steps above, please reinstall the Live Messenger/Essentials and see if it works.

    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • This worked! Thank you for your post. I had been fighting this for days. No one had the right answer. The reseting of the WINSOCK is what fixed my issue as well.

    Again big THANKX!
