Windows 7 Home Premium with Windows Virtual PC & Windows XP Mode,

    Question

  • I'm currently running Vista Premium and just per-ordered Windows 7 Premium.  I notice that Microsoft only offers the XP Mode in their professional, Ultimate and Enterprise versions. Once I upgrade to Windows7 will I be able to download and manually install Virtual PC and XP mode and have it work in my Premium version?  Yes my AMD BIOS supports it.  Thank you!

  • leelord,

I'm afraid not - XP Mode via Virtual PC is only available in Windows 7 Professional and above. This is because you're essentially getting a free Windows XP license, without which you could just as easily run a different virtualization solution (e.g. VMware) with your own copy of Windows XP.

  • Need Professional or higher. It is not supported in home version.
