    Hi,

    First please try System Restore in Safe Mode.

    What’s the result? If you can run System Restore in Safe Mode, this cause can be third-party software conflict. Please let me know and I will provide further suggestions to troubleshoot the issue.

    If it still fails, this issue can be caused by corrupt System Restore components. Then I suggest trying the following methods to troubleshoot the issue:

    Method 1 Re-Registering Core Files
    ================

    1.   Launch an elevated command prompt.

    2.   From the command prompt type the following commands:

    Regsvr32 srcore.dll

    3.   Click OK on the confirmation dialog box.

    Method 2 Restoring the Core Files

    ===============

    1.   Launch an elevated command prompt.

    2.   From the command prompt type the following commands:

    sfc /scannow

    3.   Click OK on the confirmation dialog box.

    Method 3 Enable Volume Shadow Copy Service

    =======================

    1.    Click Start, type services.msc and press Enter.

    2.    Make sure the status of Volume Shadow Copy is Started.

    Method 4 Check registry keys

    =============

    Locate to the following registry:

    HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore

    If you find a DisableConfig DWORD set to “1” in either of these keys, export the key and delete it.

    Try System Restore again.

    Please let me know the result.

  • Use ERD 6 (boot from CD/DVD or PXe boot) then use system restore from ERD 6.

    Give it a try.

  • I am not sure what ERD 6 is. Can you explain in a little more detail. Thanks.

    I have been experiencing exactly the same problem.

    System Restore is not working, Personalization settings either.

    I have tried the following:

    1. sfc / scannow

    2. cleaned up my registry with Uniblue Registry Booster (as recommended by Microsoft)

    3. Installed Microsoft Security Essentials (and unistalled previous antivirus), ran scan, no virus threads

    4. Rebooted but the problem insists (no System Restore, no access to Personalization settings).

    Please, any idea what has happened and what should I do?

    Thanks,

    Tassos
