uTorrent freezes after starting program in Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.

    Question

  • Hi,

Just recently uTorrent has begun freezing (not responding) after I start it and begin my downloads. It was working perfectly up until a few days ago. Is there a known fix for this or can you point me in the direction of a fix? Thanks.

  • Hi jollygreen,

    Thanks for the post.

You may like to try running the application in compatibility mode for Windows XP. Also you may like to run the application as Administrator.
To do so, follow these steps :

Step 1:Right click on the application shortcut.
     Step 2:Click on properties.
     Step 3:Click on compatibility tab
Step 4:Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
Step 5:Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
Step 6:Check privilege level to "Run this program as Administrator"
Step 7:Click OK and run the application

If still the problem persists,I would like to know some more details

1.Have you installed any antivirus applications recently? If yes, try disabling the antivirus application and run utorrent.
2.Is the same issue exists for other P2P clients?
3.Which network adapter are you are using?

  • my computer has been doing the same thing for about three months, and it happens only after FIRST starting utorrent and shortly after adding the first new torrent. however, i am using vista. after letting utorrent run thru whatever is locking it up, it eventually proves to come back to life and starts to respond to input again but it is most annoying.

    specs

no a/v software recently or in the past except rootkit revealer and hijack this which are run upon my request.
using vista home premium sp 2 preinstalled on my acer (32-bit edition)

network card has had some issues before, however. microsoft update was attempting to push an update to me for a while, and after taking the update i would constantly get bsod. after a week of this and running thru everything else including intensive memory and hdd testing using hirens bootcd, i rolled back that drive and disabled it on windowsupdate from appearing. this computer has no bsod since and that's been about 4 months. from 5 times a day to zero.

    here are those details:
Bus 8, Device 0, Function 0    Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5764M PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
    Driver Version    10.82.0.0

the file that was being pushed on ms update was newer, but must not work because of an oem change made by presumably acer, i'm not sure. it was dated september and seems to match the exact hardware version i have too. dunno..

as for any other details, or if anybody else has this issue, PLEASE help. i've ever gone so far as to post on the utorrent forums, upgrade/downgrade utorrent versions, etc. to no avail. i've posted logs of this, that and the other thing for mod after mod after power user and it drives me nuts!

the system is an acer aspire 4530 4gb ram, and an athlon 64-bit proc yadda yadda

  • I had the same problem. I unchecked "Disable Windows Write Cache" This worked for me on Server 2008 x32 on my HPMini and on my Server 2008 x64 HP Laptop as well. ?I guess windows must block the app from disabling the cache! This drove me crazy for quite while!
