Updates for WinXP SP3

    Question

  • For the last 3 weeks I have been getting CONSTANT updates on a security issue (The same one over and over).  XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2.  It is the same patch every single time I go to shut down my computer, it "installs" it, every time I install it while I first START my computer, and about 10 times a day through the day!  Why is this happening?

Exact phrase used in this update is:

    Size: 5.4 MB

A security issue has been identified in Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

More information for this update can be found at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=128803

Thgis patch does NOT seem to stay in windows once I shut down and restart.  Is there a way for me to NOT deal with this annoying file again!?!?  Considering auto update is ON along with virus protection all the time!?

Have you tried installing it manually?  You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms08-069.mspx

A few people have said that installing it manually, it'll ask to remove everything.  Reboot, then run the install again to install, reboot, and that should work :)
