Mouse continualy freezing

    Question

  • I have Windows 7 home premium and my mouse continues to freeze up.  I am using Windows 64 bit.  I have an Asus motherboard with an I7 quad core chipset.  Sometimes when I reboot it resolves the issue, but not always.  Someone please elp as it is driving me bonkers!  Thanks in advance for any help that someone can provide.

  • Please first update BIOS and drivers to the latest version. In addition, you can try it in Clean Boot mode.

  • This may not be a solution , but i struggled with this also and what i did was simply disable the " Enhance Pointer Precision " option!

That's all i did , no more freezes and hickups.

As i pointed out , it may not be THE solution for seanellis777 Users MedalsUsers MedalsUsers MedalsUsers Medalsbut give it a try.

  • When it freezes does it eventually start working again? Does the keyboard work when this happens? As a test try pressing the Windows key when the mouse is frozen. Does the Start Menu pop up? If the keyboard works press the Ctrl-Shift-Esc keys at the same time. If the Task Manager pops up press the left or right cursor keys until you are on the Performance tab. What is the CPU Usage? What I'm trying to determine is: Is Windows frozen or has the mouse quit working? Is the problem temporary or terminal? Is a program or process hogging all the CPU time?

  • I also have this problem, although I noticed that it occurs whenever the computer displays the "thinking" cursor.  Additionally it is only happening to my USB mouse, my PS/2 touchpad, that is built into the laptop, is not suffering from this problem.

My external keyboard also displays the problem, however instead of just freezing, it will also sometimes "freeze" when a button is pressed, resulting in that button being "pressed" 10-15 times.  (for instance if the letter j was pressed, then I will have between 10 and 15 j's on the screen)

This does not seem to occur using the built in keyboard.

All drivers are up to date, install is fresh.
