How do i wipe my hard drive?

    Question

  • Hello All,

I was trying to reinstall my windows 7; I thought i wiped my hard drive, but I noticed that i partitioned my hard drive instead. I would like to wipe the hard drive clean because it has Ubuntu on it also. I just want a clean hard drive with one operating system on it. Also, what are some suggested softwares that I can use to wipe a hard drive clean?

    Thanks

You can format a partition with the Windows 7 installation DVD:
    1. Boot from the DVD
    2. Click Install Now
    3. At the setup screen, click Custom (Advanced)
    4. Click Drive Options
    5. Select the partition(s) you want to format - make sure you chose the CORRECT partition
    6. Click Format - this will delete EVERYTHING on that partition
    7. Create a new partition (if needed) and select a partition to install Windows on.
    8. Continue with install.

Darik's Boot And Nuke - Wipe Hard Drive

Darik's Boot And Nuke will securely erase the entire hard drive. The download file is an ISO file that you can burn to a CD or DVD, then boot your computer from the CD/DVD to start DBAN and choose to erase your hard drive(s). Disconnect any extra drives you don't want to be wiped.

This program will erase and destroy ALL DATA on the ENTIRE hard drive (including Windows and the restore partition if you have one), and it will take a while to finish.

Again: following this advice will completely erase all data an the entire hard drive. Backup your data first, and make sure you have a way to reinstall Windows if you want to reinstall.

  • When booting from your Windows 7, choose custom, then select your drive partitions and remove them, create your fresh partition, and then proceed with your installation.
