  • Hi All, sorry about the garbled initial entry on this thread...I discovered that the SP1 disk image (.ISO) that I downloaded from MSDNAA was infact corrupt.  Lesson for the future - try to copy installation files to c:\ before installing software. That way you can check if something is a miss before running the installation (new years resolution)!
Thanks for the responses - I've got it fixed now

  • Holly cow batman, this gives me a splitting headache to decipher  Think I would ask a moderator to delete this one and start over. However, I did find an answer for you during my research of your problem

    KB949258.

MSI (s) (F0:5C) [18:27:43:876]: Windows Installer installed an update. Product Name: Visual Studio Tools for the Office system 3.0 Runtime. Product Version: 9.0.30729. Product Language: 0. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Update Name: KB949258. Installation success or error status: 1603.

This meant I was able to look up the individual update – Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System (version 3.0 Runtime) Service Pack 1 (x86).  Downloading and installing this before SP1 of Visual Studio 2008 enabled the installation to progress nicely.

  • Hi cat,

This issue can be caused by 3rd party software conflicts with VS 2008 SP1. I kindly recommend you to manually download Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (Installer), then perform a Clean Boot to disable any 3rd party services and install it. If the issue persists, you may need to use System Update Readiness Tool to resolve certain conditions that could cause installing updates and other software not to work. Afterwards, install VS 2008 SP1 again.

    Best Regards
    Dale
