Windows 7. PPTP VPN problem. Error 619.

    Question

  • Hi,

I have a very strange situation with my Windows 7 laptop.

    - I have several customers, and I can succesfully connect to all their PPTP VPN servers, except for one, in which when trying to connect, I get error 619.

    - The strange thing is that my flatmate (same network) has a laptop with Windows XP, and I can succesfully connect with it. My coleagues also connect succesfully to this VPN server from their houses.

I've done a WireShark Trace, to see the behaviour of the connection attempt. What I can see is that my computer sends "PPP LCP Configuration Requests" of protocol 47 (GRE), and gets no response.

I've tried chaging the authetications protocols to PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP V2 with no success.. Also tried optional encription in the VPN settings.

So this problem is driving me nuts, as I can't understand why only this VPN server gives me problems, and why everyone can connect except me.

    Any ideas?? Thanks..

  • Hi,

This error can occur by incompatible third party programs, incorrect network settings or conflicted driver. I suggest you try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

    1. Temporarily uninstall firewall or antivirus program on the machine.

    2. Upgrade the NIC driver to the latest one. If the issue persists, please bypass the router (if there is) and connect to DSL modem directly for a test.

If the issue persists, please also perform the suggestions from the link below:

    Windows 7 VPN

    Thanks,

    Novak

I am pretty sure you have already found a solution or changed your laptop, but as soon as I personally encountered the same error, I think it would be good to share a solution with other users in trouble. The problem was in my router (D-Link) occasionally blocking VPN ports. Here is a detailed article with as it seems all possible issues which may cause Error 619: http://www.vpnserverwindows7.net/vpn-error-619/

I hope this information is helpful.

  • I am also facing same problem.. I want to ask one thing, does your router was blocking it ocassionally, means it was allowing sometimes and sometimes not.

My connection is also establishing only once to the cyberoam, for the next time it shows error 619.

When i restart service on cyberoam, it connects and for the next time again it doesn't.

    Help..

  • Have a similar problem.  Windows 7  VPN connection works perfectly fine in Canada connecting to his Canadian office.  When the user goes to the US he can not connect to his office in Canada.  If anyone has a suggestion it would be appreciated.....  Thanks
