What happened to my CD and DVD drives

    Question

  • I installed Windows 7 oveand XP machine.  Everything has been working great.  I reinstalled drivers, applications.  I have been running trouble free for 3 weeks.  Today I went to use the CD drive, and discover both CD and DVD drives were no longer accessible.  The hardware divice manager was giving a code 39.  I uninstalled and refreshed and got the same error on both drives.  I uninstalled, shut down, booted and Windows 7 saw and tried to install the drivers, but gave me the same error 39.  I have unstalled to last two updates (because they were the only things to have been installed since the program has developed) but no change.  Anyone got any suggestions why they stopped working and how to get them back?  Thanks for your assistance.  Jim
