Windows 7 startup and shutdown very slow

    Question

  • Hello! I have a HP Pavilion Dv7 with these specs

    Windows 7 x64 with SP1
    CPU: inter core i7 q720
    Ram: 8 gb

I have few software installed and most of options about Aero and other completely disabled.
Anyway,it tooks 90 seconds to startup and 13 to shutdown
Shutdown time is ok, but startup is too much in my opinion.
Is there any way to improve it? How may i generate a report to post here and get your help?
    Thank you!

Answers

  • ok, I got the trace and saw that the Kaspersky service blocks the boot for 30 seconds. Uninstall it and use other (free) tools like Aira AntiVir or Microsoft Security Essentials.

After doing this run the optimization from [1] again.

  • Hi,

make sure you have the service Superfetch running and next try to speed up the boot with the help of my guide [1]. This trains the advanced prefetcher in Windows 7. This increase the boot performance a lot. All other tweaking tools are useless. Only use this method with this Microsoft Toolkit.

If this doesn't speed up the boot process, follow my guide [2] to make a boot trace and compress the boot_BASE+CSWITCH+DRIVERS+POWER_1.etl as 7z or RAR and upload it to your Skydrive [3] and post the link here.

I take a look at the trace, maybe I see what's wrong with your Windows.

  • Thank you for your prompt reply.

Booting times looks like really improved, it boots in few seconds!
Shutdown still takes about 13-15 seconds, but it's ok!

There is still last issue: once system is started, first start of software (Visual Studio, Chrome, Ie9) tooks a lot of time!
When the PC after few minutes of work goes in full power, it opens all in 1 istant.
Is there something else i can do to improve this?

Have i to post my traces, like you said me in [2]?
    Thank you again!

  • read my guide again. This happens if you use the DRIVERS flag. Run the command again without DRIVERS in the command.

  • double click on the etl file and look at the service graph. Do you see the long delay caused by Kaspersky (AVP)?
