Setup OfflineServicing Error [Windows 7 HOMEPREMIUM Sp1 64-bit]

    Question

  • I deployed unattended installation of Windows 7 Home x64 Sp1 with integrated updates getting this generic error.

I had to delete xml file from usbdrive to be able to install OS.

What I cannot understand is why:

    (1) I can install OS with slipstreamed updates

    (2) I can install OS with no updates using autounattend.xml

    (3) I cannot install updated OS using autounattend.xml

    HELP

    This is my setup file:

  • The only thing I was able to find:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939289

QUOTE: When you perform an unattended installation of Windows Vista, you may find that the "<servicing>" section of the automatically detected unattended-answer file (Autounattend.xml) is not processed.
The "<servicing>" section contains instructions to install language packs, hotfixes, or other packages. The unattended-answer file is automatically detected by Windows Setup because this file is located in one of several valid search locations for unattended-answer files. Because of this problem, the installation of language packs, hotfixes, or other packages fails silently.
This problem does not occur if the Autounattend.xml answer file is explicitly specified by using the /unattend switch.

Proposed solution is quite peculiar... Fake drivers installation from empty folder to force Windows to process Offline section (why Microsoft?).

    I have to try.

  • Hi,

According to your description, I suspect this might be caused by some specific updates.

Please look in the setupact.log in c:\windows\panther\setupact.log to tell what Windows Setup is complaining about.

Paste here or upload from skydrive, we will do further analysis for you.

  • Sorry, I didn't save log file.

Anyway, I had integrated ie10 with relative updates.

After some searching, I found KB2726535 could be the problem, but I got the same error after remove it.

And I got the offlineservice error even after integrated other updates.

But only if I try unattend installation (no problem with normal installation)

Even if the autounattend.xml file is correct! I tested it. It works.

I get in trouble when I try to install windows with integrated updates in unattended mode.

  • Setup doesn't like some ASCII characters being present in the XML. Try removing the registered trademark symbol following Microsoft where it appears.

  • Thanks for suggestion, but there's no problem with ASCII (autounattend.xml works perfectly).

It seems like Windows 7 cannot handle integrated updates during unattended setup.

Maybe I need to integrate some instructions in xml file.

    Any idea?

  • IEWelcomeMessage is deprecated for IE10. Remove it from your answer file and try it again.
