[Windows 8.1] What is correct Kernel Version in Win 8.1?

    Question

  • Hi,

    I installed windows 8.1 preview.

    I found kernel version in win 8.1 is major : 6 , minor : 3

In cmd.exe display kernel version is Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3]

But, If using GetVersionEx function, function return 6.2.

Why getting version is different? And, What is correct kernel version in Win 8.1?

    Thanks

  • By the way, why GetVersionEx function return minor version 2 in Windows 8.1

Do you know the reason that?

    read this here:

The internal version number for Windows 8.1 Preview and Windows Server 2012 R2 Preview is 6.3. Only apps that are targeting Windows 8.1 will receive a return value of 6.3. Those apps that are not targeted for Windows 8.1 will receive a return value of 6.2 unless previously shimmed as discussed below.

Add the supportedOS Id entry to the Manifest to get the correct result.
