Windows 7 RC - A Fix for DVD Writer not recognised as a Writable Device

    General discussion

  • I have a Toshiba Satellite Lap Top with a Pioneer DVD-RW DVDRTD08A DVD Writer, but although Windows 7 detected it, applications such a CDBurnerXP did not see it as a writeable device.

The Registry did not have the 'filter' keys suggested elsewhere in regard to DVD ROM problems and disabling AHCI (another suggestion on the CDBurnerXP website) caused Windows 7 to blue Screen.

Eventually I found a reference elsewhere to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. I installed this and it fixed the problem!

I think this is because Windows 7 RC does not have a driver to support the Intel AHCI Controller, and this is installed when you install the Intel Maxtrix Storage Manager.

Hopefully this may help others suffering similar problems.
