C:\\windows\system32\dxva2.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error

    Question

  • I get this message everytime I open itunes; when I click okay on the error, iTunes works fine. C:\\windows\system32\dxva2.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. I also can't play any windows WMV files in windows media player 12 (windows 7 64) and I can't play a blue ray or dvd move but can access the drive. for Blu-ray I used Sony BL player that came with my Viao PC. I went up the food chain at Viao and no one can solve the problem. Does anyone have any ideas

  • Hi Mark,

Open the CBS.log and look which files can't be repaired:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228/en-us

If a small number of files is broken, extract the DLL from the Windows DVD:

If this doesn't work, make an InPlace Upgrade to repair the Windows:

  • Please start the command prompt with admin rights [1] and run sfc [2]:

    sfc.exe /scannow

    Does it find broken files?

  • Thanks Amdre:

I tried running the sfc / scan yesterday. It did say it found some broken files but was unable to fix them. What do I try next?
