Win7pro 64bit not utilizing all six cores of my AMD FX-6100 even after hotfix

    Question

  • The title say's it all,I have checked it during graphic intensive simplay and only 4 cores show any activity,I have dual radeon6850's running and 16gb of mem and a MSI 890FXA-GD65 mobo,What can I do to get all 6 cores running?

  • Update your 890FXA-GD65 BIOS to one compatible with the FX-6100.

    You need v14 or later. See the CPU Support list for the 890FXA-GD65.

  • Yeah,I already had latest MSI Tech Support say's I have to do a clean install of my operating system again.Wish they would list that in the prereq's for installing!

  • You should only need to update the BIOS, and make the appropriate settings in it.

    Windows will recognise the additional cores and install the drivers for them. That should be all that is needed.

  • Alas I wish that was all there is to it,But I have the latest bios and no joy! Everything reads it as a six core but the performance monitor and some 3rd party apps show only 4 cores operating!MSI Tech support say's I have to do a clean reinstall of my operating system cross my fingers and hope that microsoft renews my licence yet again!
