Windows 7 - Freezing after Startup

    Question

  • Occasionally, my computer allows me to login, but then freezes up. Sometimes, it will take 3 or 4 reboots for my computer to run properly.

I ran Hi-JackThis - can somebody let me know if there is anything else I should be doing to fix this?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the post!

Firstly, please update the BIOS and other hardware driver to the latest one, then try Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it works in Safe Mode, I suspect some applications cause this issue, a Clean Boot could help you find the culprit.

If it doesn’t work, I recommend you check the event log during the startup.

Open your Event Viewer, navigate to: Applications and Services Logs – Microsoft – Windows – Diagnostics-Performance – Operational

Find the Task Category: Boot Performance Monitoring, Event ID 100 and 101

Check the related time when your computer is freezing. Click Details, it records every boot time details, find which causes much more time.

If the issue persists, I’d like to suggest you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance so that this problem can be resolved efficiently. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:

If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers.

  • Hi brian,

Do you have 2 antivirus applications installed ? there are references to both mcafee and norton in your log. Running two antiviruses can cause lots of issue and just worth checking you dont have 2 running concurrently.
