Dual Boot XP Pro x86 and Win 7 x86 and x64

    Debate general

  • My specs.
    AMD 9500 Quad, ECS A780GM_A 1.1, OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition 4GB Dual Channel, Sapphire Radeon HD 4650 - 512MB DDR2, PCI-E2.0

Formated the win7 Beta partition in XP, Booted up the win7 32 bit dvd, loaded in about 45 minutes, no problems. Did some benchmarks (Everest Ultimate 4.60.1500)to see if everything looked good compared to XP. All looked good. played around with it for a while and decided to try the 64 bit Win7, so I Booted that dvd and did a custon install after formating drive from setup(what I did not like was it never gave me the option to name the partition during/before format). Everthing installed fine in about 45 minutes. I did some benchmarks again with Everest Ultimate and found that the 32 bit Win7 performed better in the memory category than Win7 64 bit by a good amount. Was not pleased so I loaded some programs up and ran them and found out my memory would hang a little on opening the programs when multitasking(using photoshop, dreamweaver). A few other programs responded in the same manner.

Formated in Xp again and loaded 32 bit Win7 up from boot. Much faster for me than 64 bit Win7. No problems with dual booting and only my old Visioneer 8920 USB scanner will not work. Looks like I will finally be moving on up from XP:)
