    Pregunta

  • I have windows 7 ultimate x64. Is there a way to take my old XP hard drive and convert it to a virtual drive to run under virtual pc?

  • Yes.  There are quite a few threads on this already.

You need the free disk2vhd utility from Microsoft.  This will allow you to create the VHD file, however, before you use it you must make sure that the VHD has been resized to a total disk size of 127GB or less, this is the full disk, not the amount of data, the partition size, etc, but the entire disk.

There are free VHD resizers for download also.

Once you've got the size correct, you will need to boot from your XP CD and do a repair installation so the correct drivers can be installed.

There are also 3rd party paid apps that can supposedly do most of the work for you, like Acronis.

  • Note that the drive is a 320GB drive and according to information on the Disk2vhd tool it only supports upt 127GB.
