Sony Vaio Webcam Not Working in windows 7

    Domanda

  • I have a Sony Vaio Model (VGN-CR507E) and I have recently put on the Windows 7 Evaluation Copy, Build 7100.

Everything seems to be in good order except for the Webcam. When I try to run msn, skype or any other webcam related programs it says that the webcam is in use by another program.

When I go to my Device Manager It says that the USB Video Device is installed and fully updated.

If someone could give me a step by step guide on how to fix this problem it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi

Your best strategy for fixing this is to go to the Sony support website and check for updated drivers for that computer. Most built-in webcams are supported with proprietary, custom drivers developed by the PC manufacturer.

Most PC makers will not be fully supporting Windows 7 until after the general release date of October 22.

    Hope this helps.

Thank You for using Windows 7

  • Hello,

First you might go to Device Manager, right click your hardware device in the list and select Update Driver Software; then click Search automatically for updated driver software.

Note: Drivers on the Windows Update site are directly provided by hardware manufacturers. Microsoft tests drivers in various environments before they are published; however, we cannot guarantee all drivers will work on all hardware platforms as there are too many different models, although their hardware ID are the same as the standard version. In some cases, due to hardware modifications by different manufacturers, the driver updates may cause some error.

If it does not work on your issue, I'd suggest you installing the Vista driver in Compatibility mode. Remove and rescan that hardware device in Device Manager, right-click on the driver executable/installer file -> Properties and select the Compatibility tab; click the checkbox before Run this program in Compatibility mode for option and select Windows Vista in the list-down box; then try installing the device driver via Run as administrator. In addition, you can use the Windows XP driver for testing.

Meanwhile, please understand that Windows 7 is a new operating system and whole driverstore has been reprogrammed; you might wait or push the device manufacturer to upgrade its driver. Thanks for your time and understanding!

For more details, please look at the first Sticky thread at the top of this forum.

What can I do if my hardware does not work?

This will give you some guidelines.

    Good Luck!

    Andy

  • I have the same problem with Vaio VGN-AR270G, where XP and Vista drivers for VGP-VCC2 work and are very stable. When I upgraded them to Windows 7 (from XP MCE and Vista), the motion eye works for a while and then hangs on and crashes on power management after a while.

Sony's eSupport mentions that the XP/Vista drivers should work. BTW, there is no vista driver on the site. I used XP driver for both Vista and XP MCE and the configuration is very stable. However, the same driver results in crash for Windows 7.

Sometime back, I was able to get a driver from the European community and it worked great for Windows 7 RC1. I don't remember nor able to search for the driver now in google.

There was also another post regarding updating MPEG-2 for vaio laptops with Nvidia GEforce 7600T graphics motherboard that I used during Rc1 times. Now, I am not able to locate it - poor indexing (very dynamic)  from Google!

    Any help is verymuch appreciated.

Sony-Tech-Support-gang, I am sure that you know the answer. I am ready to take even beta that works.  Please help Windows lovers. Your Windows 7 update information on esupport site is not helping!!

  • Hi,

I have Vaio laptop model VGN-FE870E.

I have also this problem in windows seven.

I search the sony website carefully and I found some updates, but unfortunately there was nothing helpful. I am sure that the software reasons are the most reason that many users like me forget the sony forever and go to the other manufacturers like lenovo, Dell, Apple , etc.

Vaio products are not user firendly.

    regards,

    Hasan

  • Guys, after having the same problem as you did (Windows 7, Vaio, camera not working) and visiting hundreds of websites and forums and installing hundreds of drivers on my computer which didn't work... I finally found something that worked on this site:

    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7hardware/thread/40c2e84f-1213-4427-b84c-c0f6470eec90?prof=required&ppud=4

check what Daniel Potyrala posted... installing it in Vista compatibility mode...

  • My model is VGN-FZ250E and I have been trying since many days to get my camera working after installing Win 7 but it just wasn't happening. I have been to endles forums and tried out infinite drivers but none worked including the one cited above by tynemedia. Finally on one of the forums (http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/61509-x64-drivers-vaio-vgn-fz-series-laptops.html) I found this download link http://www.hwupgrade.it/forum/showthread.php?t=1682490 which got my camera working. You may want to give it a shot - although it is originally in Italian, it isn't a problem since things are self-explanatory.

  • Guys spent 2 days to find it was a 2 mints solution.after u install the ArcSoft WebCam Companion 2 http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNCR220E&upd_id=5051&os_group_id=5 from the website, the device manager will say  usb video device, run this file  http://s02.download.sony.com/US/pc/SODCAM-14581400-US.EXE to change it to Sony visual communication camera VGP-VCC6.and thats it.its less than 2mb size.

do try, it will definately work.

my system: VAIO VGN-CR220E, and the issue started after upgrading it to windows 7.

tynemedia, your solution (the files) was the only one that has worked here: Sony Vaio VGN-CR510E and Windows 8.1 64 bits. Thank you.
