WMP .smi subtitles

    질문

  • After creating a movie and making subtitles, the subtitles has been saved in .smi format. And WMP 12 shows them when enabling subs. And maybe also after changing default sub language to [en].

    The .smi file starts like this:

    <SAMI>
    <HEAD>
       <STYLE TYPE="Text/css">
       <!--
          P {margin-left: 29pt; margin-right: 29pt; font-size: 24pt; text-align: center; font-family: Courier New; font-weight: bold; font-stretch: wider; color: #FFFFFF; background-color: #000000;}
          .SUBTTL {Name: 'Subtitles'; Lang: en-US; SAMIType: CC;}
       -->
       </STYLE>
    </HEAD>

    So it is easy to change the size, colour and family of font.

    1) But is it also possible to set a font size relative to the size of WMP window?

    2) And why are there some movies, where WMP does not show subtitles from .smi file with same name as movie file?

    3) And lastly is it possible when showing subtitles, and WMP 12 automatically makes blank space beneath and above movie, to remove the blank space above the movie and only have below where subtitles are displayed?

  • 4) Btw when it has shown one subtitle and there's a long pause to the next one, WMP 12 doesn't stop showing the last displayed.

  • I'm not sure why WMP sometimes fails to load the subtitles, but you can force it to do so by launching the video and subtitle file together in an ASX file. Put this in a text file and make it have the ASX extension:
    <asx version="3.0">
Your abstract goes here
    <title>Your title goes here</title>
    <author>Your author's name goes here</author>
    <copyright>(c)Copyright information goes here</copyright>
    <entry>
    <ref href="MyMovie.AVI?SAMI=MyMovie.smi"/>
Your abstract goes here
    <title>Your title goes here</title>
    <author>Your author's name goes here</author>
    <copyright>(c)Copyright information goes here</copyright>
    </entry>
    </asx>
    As far as removing a subtitle after you no longer need it, just show a space:
    <SYNC Start=16910><P Class=SUBTTL>THE BEGINNING.
    <SYNC Start=20582><P Class=SUBTTL>&nbsp;
    <SYNC Start=347854><P Class=SUBTTL>THE END.
