Microsoft RAW Codec Not Working

    Pergunta

  • I have installed the latest version of the Microsoft RAW Codec (I am running Win7 64-bit Pro.) and still am unable to view Canon CR2 files in Windows Explorer or Live Gallery. How do I fix this?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

  • I just discovered that it is only the CR2 files from my new Canon G1 X that I am unable to view. Older ones from my Canon 20D are working, although there is no preview in the preview pane in Explorer.

  • MS does not update their RAW codec very often. You will either need to use
software supplied with the camera or a third party solution.
http://www.ardfry.com/cr2-codec/ (not free) is one that may work for you. there
is a free program http://www.faststone.org/ that lets you browse, but it is not
    integrated into Windows Explorer.

  • Thanks, Barb,

At the rate of arrivals of new camera models to market, I can't say I blame them. Canon should really have included 64-bit support in their pack. I guess I thought a .CR2 was a .CR2, but this apparently isn't the case. Supports the case for buying Lightroom 4, I suppose.

    Best regards,
    Rob

  • Thanks, but neither of these addresses the real issue, which is that neither Microsoft nor Canon support the latest .CR2 format in a native Windows 7 environment. I spent the money and bought Lightroom 4, which resolves the issue. Shame on Canon, though -- they should recognize the large number of Win7 64-bit users.
