Print driver host for 32bit applications has stopped working

    Frage

  • I have a Windows 7 64bit machine. Error happens randomly when I'm working in Word (office 2007), Acrobat X Pro 10.1 and Indesign CS6 and causes the programs to crash. The error does not occur when printing just happens when working in the above programs.

The error report identifies appcrash & application name: splwow64.exe. How can I fix this?

  • I am looking at this same behavior right now at my company...

    "Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\EF472831.dll"

I'm thinking a bad print driver, still working on it. It's crashing Acrobat, Office apps, Notes, even the Snipping Tool. :-)

Looking at the EF472831.chm help file in that same path... it looks like it might be a Xerox fiery driver.

  • Just following up. I got off the phone with my Deskside tech at the location where multiple users are having the same problem (and not all x64 OS either).

All of the users were using a Xerox 550 network printer. We removed the printer from the affected systems and the symptoms have stopped, at least temporarily.

I'm still not sure what triggered this to become a problem all of the sudden. We are looking for updated drivers now. Hopefully this helps you.

  • Thanks for your response. Yes, the user prints to a Xerox 550 Fiery. Strange that none of our other users are reporting the issue. I will check into this more as well.

  • Then maybe a profile's error for that user.
