WSUS Server 2003 w/SP2 Client Not Report Status

    Frage

  • I'm currently conducting a test with the hopes of rolling it out to more clients if successful which unfortunately I have not.  The clients are camera servers and I would like to automate the process so that these camera servers check into WSUS, install their updates if available and reboot on their own.  The clients have no issues checking into WSUS but they are not reporting their status and it does not appear that they are installing available updates.  There are no group policies being applied to these clients via GPO, I've updated the registry on each to point to my "Test" container group and setup local group policies with explicit instructions on when to checkin, where to check-in and when to reboot.  However, my clients will not report their status into WSUS.  I reviewed the log files but I am unable to find anything that jumps out.  I’ve downloaded & ran client diagnostic tools and the clients all pass.  I read other posts regarding KB2720211 and although I do not have it installed I do not believe this is the issue because other clients, from other containers have no issues checking into WSUS and reporting their status.  Also, I've read a few horror stories from administrators that have applied this update to their environment and have run into more issues.  Below, I've included the log files from one of the clients and just want to emphasize that the clients do check in everyday but will not report their status or install available updates.

You need to patch your WSUS server. It needs KB2720211 (from June 2012) or KB2734608 (from August 2012).

Your camera servers have the newest WUAgent (v7.6.7600.256) installed -- possibly a result of having been updated from AU previously -- and the WSUS server has not. The patch is required to allow newer WUAgents to talk to WSUS.
