uncheck "use automatic configuration script" in IE LAN settings

    Question

  • Hi all,

I need to "uncheck" the "use automatic configuration script" in IE LAN settings. I tried a few settings but all I achieve is to grey out the whole thing, when the box is checked it stays checked... even importing connection settings doesn't uncheck the box.

    any ideas would be apreciated

  • Hi,

You can create a GPO, link it to a scope (Site, Domain, or OU level) which contain user account object.

    Configure the GPO:

User Configuration \ Policies \ Windows Settings \ Internet Explorer Maintenance \ Connection \ Automatic Browser Configuration \uncheck “Automatically detect configuration settings”

On user computer, run “gpupdate /force” to refresh group policy and check the result.

If "use automatic configuration script" settings still exist, run “rsop.msc” and check which policies applied to “<//span>Automatic Browser Configuration” on “Auto-Cfg Detect Precedence” tab.

If not, we can use script to modify "use automatic configuration script" settings in registry through script policy.

    Registry value is:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\AutoConfigURL
