RDP Hotfix for Windows 2003 SP2

    Question

  • What is the latest RDP hotfix for Windows 2003 SP2, we are having issues when we want the server to reboot and it just hangs.  I remember that there was an hotfix for this issue.  Our workaround is to use a remote shutdown command.   I believe they was an post-SP2 that kinda of helped in most cases.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

Based on my search, the following articles will give you a hand:

Certain Windows Server 2003 hotfixes have been repackaged to be compatible with Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2)

Meanwhile, I would require to analyze the cause of the unresponsiveness.

Sometimes, the clean-boot (MSCONFIG) will helps you to isolate the issue that might be caused by the third party software.

    Thanks.

  • Alan,

Thanks for the information, but there was a specfic hotfixes (post SP2) that help restart/shutdown a windows 2003, that is what we are looking for as we went through all troubleshooting steps previoius to seeking this information in the forum.    This fix is just a standalone server, we have no clustering involved.

  • yes i remember the one you mean, i had to patch our whole environment years ago for it, but cannot find my email which i wrote to the team with the reference to it.

Upon googling the only reference i found which might be it was :-

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930045

Im going to apply to one of our machines tonight and fingers crossed this was it.

  • I have the same issue on multiple 2003 servers.

    All servers are fully patched.

    Tried these hotfixes :

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930045 ( Termsrv.dll 5.2.3790.3043  2007)

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977629( Termsrv.dll 5.2.3790.4676  2010 )

    The last hotfix supersedes KB930045.

Both hotfixes didn't work, has anyone got an idea what may fix the reboot issue ?
