Server 2008 R2 Event ID 55

    Question

  • Hi All,

    I have a client machine running Server 2008 R2 with 2 scheduled daily backups. As soon as the backup starts to run, it throws Event 55.

    Log Name:      System
    Source:        Ntfs
    Date:          3/9/2012 1:00:18 PM
    Event ID:      55

    Computer:
    Description:
    The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume Scale.

      </EventData>
    </Event>

    This is a primary production machine, so taking it offline is a giant scheduling issue. To date, we have taken the volume offline to run chkdsk /R on the volume in question. It returned with no errors found, yet every time a backup runs, the error is thrown.

    Any help would be greatly appriciated.

    Thanks,

    EBM

  • Hi,

    What kind of backup software are you using?

    The issue could also be caused by third party program such as mentioned in following article:

  • Hi Shaon,

    We are running the integrated "Windows Server Backup" sheduled to run at 1:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M., in addition, "Shadow Copies" is scheduled for 6:30 A.M. and 12:00 P.M. on the volume in question.

    Thanks,
