WMI is causing high CPU utilization

    Question

  • It appears that Windows server 2008 "R1" as well as Windows Vista are very inefficient when it comes to WMI. Here is an article that details this very well. (https://prtg.paessler.com/help/wmi_sensors.htm - check out the section titled "Limitations of WMI on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 R1"). However windows server 2003 and windows server 2008 R2 perform much better. Unfortunately, we use WMI extensively to monitor our network and we have quite a bit of windows server 2008 machines that are used as the client to do all that monitoring. We are exhibiting the spike that this article talks about in house. Is this a known documented issue by Microsoft and is there a fix for it? Could the fix be in any of the service packs released?

    Thanks
