  • Did you refer this below link about the event ID 519

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd364767(v=ws.10).aspx

    According to the above ,

When you run a backup operation, Windows Server Backup runs checks for consistency and hardware and software corruption to determine the integrity of the backup set.

Did you check for any of the Hardware and software corruption issue?

Follow above link to understand and try to troubleshoot with the help of it.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi,

The backup logs are showing that, backup has completed successfully.

But I am getting this warning message in event viewer

I am gessing that, when we initiate the Active Directory System State backup,

This will back up the system state from volume(s) <Unlabeled Volume> (\\?\Volume{4aa5443c-1d63-56e0-b413-806e6t6e65363}\),AD Database,Local Disk(C:)to Backup Drive.

Now it is not able to backup the volume “4aa5443c-1d63-56e0-b413-806e6t6e65363” and reset are successful, I am not able to find why ?

  • Mr X is right and i guess you can receive better response by posting your thread in the backup forum from the experts.

  • --Ensure that sufficient space is availabe on the drive where backup is targeted.

--Disable the antivirus if any have seen senario where AV(Symantec Endpoint Protection) has caused this issue.

--If you have single drive(C:),you cannot perform the backup on critical volume,to perfrom the same refer below link:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944530

However I would also recommend to raise the query in backup forum for better assistance.

  • Backup forum referred me back to AD forum.

    Hell VLCC,

i can understand your annoyance about this kind of ping-pong. I commentet also in the backup forum thread to Jeff about the correct forum from the view of all Directory services forum answerers.

System State backup is NOT only done on DCs, this is possible on all machines, just some other parts are backed up.

  • I would also recommend to install latest hotfix of VSS on the server.Have seen secnarios where backup have failed if the latest is not installed.Installing below hotfix should not be a problem. Also ensure that latest Windows hotfix and Service Pack for W2k8 R2 is also installed. Please take the full backup of the server before you proceed.

    Refer below links for VSS.

  • thanks Sandesh !!

    No error on command prompt

When I am checking event logs, in application event logs I am getting the below warning message.

    Event ID : 519

    Source :- Backup

    ==================

I will check the hotfix suggested by u and update the status.

    Saturday, April 07, 2012 11:06 AM
  • In addition to hotfix also run chkdsk on the voulume where you are targeting the backup. If errors are found you need to run chkdsk/f to fix the same.

Also this could be due to antivirus s/w with new security features enabled like Symantec Endpoint Protection/McAfee/trend,etc.If any disable the same or uninstall the same and check.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsbackup/thread/7cd14f76-4a34-4ed6-bc23-236d93fd23a1

Assuming that you have open the command as Run as Administrator and then executed the backup command. If not this could also be the cause.

Event 519 means Backup Set Integrity issue. Please have a look at this KB.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd364767(v=ws.10).aspx

Also can you post the entire events details of event id 512 and also other errors events as well if any.

Have you tried to back systemstate on USB HDD give a try?

    Hope this helps

  • Since you mentioned no error in cmd is that backup is completed but you are getting event id 519?
Have you checked the logs for any error reported in %windir%\logs\windowsserverbackup ?
