Windows 7 client - There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request

    Question

  • Hello all IT expert out there, Good day.

Our company currently come across with an issue recently:

Problem :  Unable login to pc when outside from Office with Active Directory NT Profile/Account
    When happen: 9-Jan-2012 until today
    How frequently this happen: Intermittently
Description of issue/Error: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request
How many system affected: 4-5 machines with same model laptop (HP 8540w)
    O.S Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise and Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise with SP1

    Steps taken:
Domain rejoin, Group Policy update, Re-create NT Profile, BIOS update, O.S reformat/reinstall,

Current workaround: login using local profile/account and use it at home, go back to office, re-connect LAN, and able to login back using NT Profile/Account and retry again when at home.

More information: our company have range of HP model and never receive such issue reported except this model. There are many employees using this model too but yet get affected, Currently these few affected machine are within same department but we have identified if any 3rd party software installed that make any changes of network protocol or component, (none) and yet we couldnt find any same software installed at those machines.

    What i m looking for?

I need some expert advise to identify this whether it's a client issue or domain server issue,

if client, what are the possibilities root cause and troubleshooting we should take?

If server issue, i will seek assistance by opening a case to our server support team?

Please help. thank you very much.

  • Normally you see this error when you have any DNS/trust issues. what is the Event id that you are getting in the event viewer ??

and I assume form the ipconfig.. do you use Juniper VPN box for the VPN usage ??

If yes, please check whether the User Realms and roles are properly configured for the users on the VPN box..If these are modified and are not configured properly user won't be able to use VPN.

and also try to run Dcdiag test and check if they are any errors and please let us know ru running (2008/2003) ??

  • Hi Gopi, thank you for your help on this matter, really appreciate

Normally you see this error when you have any DNS/trust issues.
Does it mean it;s client or server issue?

what is the Event id that you are getting in the event viewer ??
    Event ID: 5719
We manage find some knowledge with this event ID at this links:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938449
So, I need some advise do we need to apply all these steps into 4-5 machines.

If yes, please check whether the User Realms and roles are properly configured for the users on the VPN box..If these are modified and are not configured properly user won't be able to use VPN.Kindly explain what is  VPN box as im not specialist on networking, as i know, even before user can use VPN, already failure to login, have to use local NT account/profile, user can use everything as usual including connect VPN

and also try to run Dcdiag test and check if they are any errors and please let us know ru running (2008/2003) ??
How do i run Dcdiag and where i run at: Domain server or Windows 7 client? I assume our domain server is running 2008

    Hope this explains. thank you

  • Does the laptop stay out of the office for a long time ? If yes I would check that registry key;

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon\
    ValueName: CachedLogonsCount
    Data Type: REG_SZ
    Values: 0 - 50

It's the number of time the cached login will work without conmtacting the DC.

  • Hello Yagmoth555
    thank you for helping,

as far i know, Those machines mostly connected to office and take back login VPN when necessary, login at office more than home.
I do check this settings over my pc and it showed CachedLogonsCount REG_SZ 2
Do i need to check at affected machine and get back to you?

    Regards.
    Edmund

  • I would just put it at 50 on a machine that give the error often. 2 seem a low setting. Maybe not the source of your error, but kinda easy to modify. (by default it's 10 for win2003, i think it's 25 for win2008, so 2 is unusual)

  • Sorry for the Delay response ...and thank you for posting the Event ID

event 5719 can be caused by many factors Network devices, network drivers:

please refer to the below links for reference :

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/activedirectoryua/archive/2011/03/15/dsforum-event-id-5719-source-netlogon.aspx

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/instan/archive/2008/09/18/netlogon-5719-and-the-disappearing-domain.aspx

apart from the above suggestions check your firewall settings and logs to see any ports are blocked.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832017

Check the time settings on the systems and check The processing of Group Policy failed (Events) in the event viewer.

    -----------------

VPN box that i was referring to was Juniper SSL box which will be used for the VPN connection, which is integrated with AD for the user authentication (please check with your network team)

The Kb : you can follow step 4, It applies to Win7sp1.

I would suggest to post the unedited Event ID for a better understanding.

  • I am having same issue with Users away from office are randomly unable to logon - we have about 10 different laptops used in a pool by about 10 different Users. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't?
