DVD writer on Hyper-V server

    Question

  • I am new to Hyper-V server, so please excuse my question if the answer is obvious.  I also tried to search for answers to my question but to no avail.

I have a DVD writer (Samsung SH-S223Q/BEBS) installed on my physical computer.  Of course Hyper-V server was installed and all that.  I just could not use the DVD writer as a DVD writer from the VMs (WinXP and Vista).  It seems that the Microsoft Virtual driver for this device is only running as a CD/DVD ROM.

Does Hyper-V server support DVD writers as writers?  What do I need to do such that I can run my DVD writer as a writer, as just a read-only device?

    Thanks for helping!

  • This question has been asked before and the answer remains the same, it cannot be done. Hyper-V supports optical drives only as read only devices.
