Duplicate name exist in the network

    Question

  • I Have windows 2003 Server with DHCP and DNS Server. I have seperately created one more DNS Server. Recently domain users are receiving one message saying Duplicate name exists in the network.

I have checked in both the DNS  Server, entries are showing. User system removed from Domain, deleted DNS entries and again rejoined the system in domain but still same error.

Did any one faced this kind of problem, what is the solution for this.

    Regards

    Manish S.K.

  • Hello,

duplicate name for the servername or a username? I assume server. Then there will be a physical machine using the same name, you have to find it.

  • You must have used same name on a different sever or workstation.  It will register it again in the DNS and WINS.  Identify the second workstation and rename it.

domain users are receiving one message -> All uses getting the same message?  It is a duplicate Server name?
