Server 2008 R2 Taskbar and Folder View Registry Settings

    Question

  • Hello all,

I am trying to create an .adm for 2008 R2, I want GP to enforce:

    Taskbar
    Use Small Icons
    Disable Grouping

    Folder Options
Always show the menu (file, edit, view, etc)
Show hidden files, folders, and drives
Unhide extensions for known file types

I don't see these settings in the default GPO templates so I am figuring that I will have to create my own, only problem is that I cannot locate these settings in the registry, been Binging around and I can't find what I need.  Curious if anyone knows of where these settings are in the registry???

    Thanks!

  • Hello,

Thank you for your post here.

    User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]

    System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]

    Value Name: TaskbarGlomming

    Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

    Value Data: (0 = not grouped, 1 = grouped)

    Value Name: HideFileExt

    Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

Value Data: (0 = not hide, 1 = hide file extension)

    Value Name: Hidden

    Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

Value Data: (0 = show hidden file, 2 = don't show hidden file)

Does the "Use Small Icons" mean the classic view? If yes, there is value named ClassicViewState in the same key path.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

  • I have located the reg files and modified them via GPO, but it doesn't appear that the GPO is working.  If I recreate my profile the settings do not apply, what we want is that every user who logs on to a 2008 R2 server to have all the same settings.  I have enforced through GPO to replace these keys on the machine.  Not sure why it isn't working.  I also tried using the builtin folder option settings for Users, but that is not working either...  Any ideas?
