Wired Autoconfig Stopped and wont Start

    Question

  • My network uses 802.1x authentication and 2 of my 2k8 R2 Hyper-V desktop servers are just pulling untrusted ip addresses. The service event log shows just in the last 12 hours for one and 3 hours for the other. Both of their Wired Autoconfig services have stopped and will not start so the Authentication TAB wont show up on the network connection properties box to turn on the 802.1x.

When I try to start the service the error message is "Windows could not start the Wired Autoconfig service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

Another server next to these two still works fine and they havent received any windows or antivirus updates in the last few days. Everything I search for turns up stuff that requires the service to be running to fix 802.1x but nothing about making the service start.
