  • Please do not run System File Checker on WS2012E.  It may break things...

  • Thanks Merv for the reply , however if you look it at the scenario as described in kb it specifically talks about the web.config for remote web access.

Interestingly the statement "When you run the SFC command together with the /scannow option, some critical changes that were applied during the server installation could revert" is a hopeless statement in kb. There should be a clear and concise kb "DO NOT RUN SFC ON ESSENTIALS " if this is the case.

  • Mohitkapoor, your quoted statement is enclosed in the "Cause" section, which meant to explain how and what is happening instead of making any suggestions.

The title of the KB "The web configuration file may become corrupted when you run the SFC command in Windows Server 2012 Essentials" should give enough hints on the impact and result that can help users make decisions on whether to run SFC command or not.

However, most importantly, does the resolution descibed in the KB help you resolve the problem?

  • Try the following http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/Windows-Update-error-80072efe-or-80072f76

This is the fix it for windows update which if your run several times on essentials will work.

    All the best.
