File Server in DR

    Question

  • My dears,

I want to deploy Clustered File Server (2 nodes) based on Windows 2012 in main site.

I want to deploy a file server in DR site to support users in case main site failed.

I want to know the following:

    1. What is the best solution to accomplish this requirements?
    2. In this link "http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831487.aspx" I find: "You can run all File and Storage Services role services in a clustered environment. However, DFS Replication does not support replicating content stored on Cluster Shared Volumes" what does it means in other words?
    3. Can I user DFS to replicate Data from Main Site clustered File Server to DR Site Single File Server?
    4. Any technet link to support the prefered scenario?
    5. Can I deploy Print Server role on Clustered File Server?

    Thank you

You'll need a pretty fat pipe between sites to accomplish your task. Also SMB is not WAN friendly protocol (performance and security reasons). In your case I'd take a look @ Hyper-V replica thing as it seems to be more suitable for your scenario. This one is nice:

    Hi my dear,

I guess there will be a way to this away from your suggestion.

Again I have 2 Cluster FIle Server in Main Site

A single file server in DR Site

How can I make this replication?

    Is it possible by DFS?

    Thanks

    My Dear,,,,

your reply there was for Windows 2008 R2,,, and its okay now, its solve the issue

    BUT

    What about Windows 2012?

What this statment means: " I find: "You can run all File and Storage Services role services in a clustered environment. However, DFS Replication does not support replicating content stored on Cluster Shared Volumes"

Does this means I cannot use DFS with Clustered File server to replicate to DR in Windows 2012?

This means you cannot DFS replicate VHDs hosted on CSV but it does not mean you cannot configure DFS to replicate files stored inside VHDs and accessed by VMs all hosted on CSV.
