  • When I got windows 8 i started deleted apps all willie nillie. This may have caused a problem with getting to group policy editor.

But as of right now its either missing, does not exit, or im just dumb.

I have used the windows button + R and typed in gpedit.msc to run it and windows says "not found"

  • the file should exist in c:\windows\system32 (it does on my Win 8 Enterprise 32bit)

    you could try sfc /scannow
you may be able to copy from a working system
    or try a system restore
    or try a repair windows
    or try a refresh windows

  • What version of Windows 8 are you on?

I Think Home Edition does not have gpedit.msc

  • Hi,

I agree with Alex, first of all, you should verify that which Windows 8 version you are using. If it is only Windows 8, we can’t see cannot see gpedit.msc, since there is no Group Policy feature enabled in the edition. Regarding the current issue, I suggest we could refer to the following article.

    Windows 8 Gpedit.msc - Group Policy Editor

    http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/win8/windows8-gpedit-msc.htm

Regarding the comparison of the Windows 8 edition, we could refer to the article below.

    Announcing the Windows 8 Editions

    Hope this helps.
