Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800F0818

    Question

  • Hi, I am running Windows Server 2008 x86 SP2.

I have looked through a bunch of similar error discussions for a solution and have tried a few things.

I've tried using the Update Readiness Checker and replaced the files which came back corrupt etc.

    The log now reads;

    =================================
    Checking System Update Readiness.
    Binary Version 6.0.6002.22574
    Package Version 13.0

    Checking Package Watchlist

    Checking Component Watchlist

    Checking Packages

    Checking Component Store
    ---------------------------------------

When I try to run the readiness checker again it fails to complete and returns the error:

    Installer encountered and error: 0x8007000d

    How inconvenient, eh?

    ---------------------------------------

I understand the first error is regarding incorrectly installed updates so, checking Windows Update I see that it has repeatedly failed to install "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86". I have attempted to install .Net 3.5 SP1 ("dotnetfx35") manually but this also fails to complete. It downloads and installs but says that the "setup has failed" giving the following description.

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 has encountered a problem during setup.  Setup did not complete correctly.

Files that help describe the problem:

      C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\WLFE2F5.tmp

      C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\SDBE306.tmp

The content of these files state that .Net 3.0 is not installed. But .net 3.5 SP1 is supposed to be a cumulative update for use regardless of the current version. Is this not the case? Many thanks. Please ask for any more information required. James.

  • Hello,

Have you tried replacing the following four files?

    winsxs\manifests\msil_mscorlib.resources_b77a5c561934e089_6.0.6002.18491_en-us_920da2c1b970edb6.manifest

    servicing\packages\Package_28_for_KB976768~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.1.mum
    servicing\packages\Package_28_for_KB976768~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.1.cat

If it does not work, also try the following:

Open Regedit and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages

Look for Package_28_for_KB976768~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.1. Backup and delete it.

    Reboot and test Server Manager.

    Thanks

  • Try this,

    Go to  following folder C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft

Right click SoftwareLicensing folder,  in the security add user slsvc ( NT Service\slsvc – local service) if user doesn't exist and provide full control.

run net stop slsvc && net start slsvc from elevated cmd.

    Reboot the server

  • Thanks for the response K Seeker. What should I be looking for as a result? Should I be trying some of the above steps again?

  • After you perform above steps, you can try running readiness tool again and see if you get same error.

  • I have done the above and it returns the same error.

Installer has encountered an error: 0x8007000d

    The data is invalid.

    EDIT:

Re-downloaded and installed the system update.
